Business is a social construct designed to organize and distribute the resources of an economic unit for the purpose of obtaining profit. It is a social organization in the same sense as a corporation, which is a legally-recognized entity designed to benefit the interests of its shareholders. Businesses are different from other social constructions such as government and non-profit organizations, in that businesses are designed to provide a product or service for the benefit of its customers. It is not necessarily derived from the notion of private profit, and in many instances, businesses can exist without any profit-making. However, in most instances, businesses do make money through sales of products and services to its customers.
The benefit of having a business is that it provides an opportunity to become self-employed. Many people in the modern world cannot legally become self-employed, because the freedom to earn one’s own money by working for himself or herself is considered a right of passage to adulthood in most cultures.

Many people are motivated to start their own business because they see it as an opportunity to create something that they are passionate about, something that they love, and earn money for this. It provides an outlet for one’s creative talents, which can be very rewarding.
